The "Teflon Ham" strikes again!

As expected, the moment Hamilton is involved in a situation that would normally produce a penalty, he and everyone concerned get nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

In the latest edition of the "Teflon Ham", Hamilton, Sato, and Button broke a tire rule that says a driver is not to use more than one set of wet tires during practice. Hamilton and the others used two sets of wet tires.

The rule itself was put in place this season to limit the amount of data a driver can collect regarding wet conditions. The idea being that with less data, we might see a more exciting wet race.

Makes sense, but if someone breaks that rule the way Hamilton and the others did, that knowledge gained can not be erased. That means that the most logical penalty requires a way to offset that advantage for the other drivers. The standard set by the FIA over the past few seasons has been a grid position penalty. In other words, if Hamilton qualifies 3rd, moving him back to 8th, etc., should be enough of a disadvantage to offset the advantage he gained by breaking the rules. It's a severe enough penalty to make a driver think twice, but lenient enough that a guilty driver can still have a good race, especially if you are driving a Ferrari or a McLaren.

But, instead of a grid position penalty, the FIA decided to fine the drivers and their teams $15,000 Euro.

McLaren laughed at the $100 million fine they got for cheating, stating they earn over $500 million a year, so who cares? So, what the hell is $15,000 Euro going to do?

Hopefully it won't rain, or if it does, Hamilton will find another beach to stall his car in, but it has become so frustrating knowing that no matter what Hamilton does wrong, unless he makes an on-track error, he will never really get penalized the way the other drivers would.
