Massa wins pole, Kimi 3rd

Felipe Massa was the only driver to dip into the 1m 11s range all weekend during Q3 of the Brazilian Grand Prix, and in doing so, won his 6th pole position of the season and Ferrari's 9th pole position of the season. That puts Massa in a tie with Hamilton with the most pole positions of the season, and gives Ferrari the lead in pole positions for the season, one more than McLaren.

Of course, to finish the job, Massa will want to win tomorrow, or at least help Kimi win.

The problem, though, is the fact that Hamilton finished 2nd. As a result, it is highly unlikely Hamilton will come out of that first corner much worse than 3rd. Knowing he only needs to cruise to a solid 3rd place in order to be crowned champion, and given what happened in China, don't look for Hamilton to really "go for it" tomorrow. In fact, if the Ferraris ran away with the victory, finishing as low as 5th would give him the championship regardless of what Alonso does.

Kimi had a great lap as well, but was blocked a bit by Hamilton as Hamilton exited the pits before his final hot lap. Kimi finished 3rd and is on the clean side of the track. Kimi should be in a great position to not only get past Hamilton off the start, but possibly get past Massa as well. This is Kimi's only hope. He will need to lead a Ferrari 1-2 and hope something terrible happens to Hamilton.

Behind the usual top-4, Mark Webber finished 5th, Nick Heidfeld was 6th, Robert Kubica was 7th, and Jarno Trulli finished 8th.

For Ferrari, the situation is simple: finish 1-2 and hope for the best. At the very least, a 1-2 Ferrari finish would send a clear message for next season.
