Where's the penalty?

Yet, again, Hamilton finds himself in a situation where he should be penalized, but gets away scott-free.

Kimi was on a hot lap when Hamilton came out of the pit lane. Hamilton was even warned by his team to look out for Kimi, but instead of waiting for Kimi to pass, he sped up actually running parallel with Kimi until Kimi made the corner. Kimi proceeded to run wide in the subsequent corners and his shot at pole was gone.

"I don't know exactly (how much time) we lost, I haven't seen the data, but for sure there could have been a slightly easier way to let me past.

But it is what it is now. I would rather be in the front, but third is an OK place to start the race from. We should have a good car and see what we can do tomorrow."

Hamilton's response was obviously apologetic:

"I came out of the pitlane, and the team said 'you will be coming close to Kimi, at that speed your mirrors are vibrating and you can't see'.

"I apologise if I got in his way, but I didn't think he was that close to me. I stayed where I was and braked. I didn't feel I hindered his lap, and I did get out of the way.

"I did the best job I could do, and I did apologise to him."

According to the FIA - and this is their words, not mine - it doesn't matter if your actions are intentional or not, if you hinder another driver's lap time, you get penalized, period.

So, where is Hamilton's penalty?

Well, don't hold your breath. Hamilton (a.k.a. Teflon Ham), has the FIA on his side and there is no way in hell he is getting penalized.
